Georgia Coates Selected For Rio 2016

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Geor­gia Coates, who has been select­ed to rep­re­sent Team GB at this sum­mer’s Olympic Games. Geor­gia is the youngest mem­ber of the 26-strong squad at just 17 years old.

A huge well done to Geor­gia, and every­one at the club who has made this dream pos­si­ble. The hard work begins now!

Coates Breaks British Junior Record

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Geor­gia Coates on break­ing the British junior short course 200m indi­vid­ual med­ley record this morn­ing. Geor­gia set a new mark of 2:10.31 to fin­ish ninth at the Euro­pean Short Course Cham­pi­onships in Israel. Great job Geor­gia! We are all very proud of you. 

Coates Set to Compete in Her First Senior International

After a suc­cess­ful World Junior Cham­pi­onships in August, Geor­gia Coates will make her first senior inter­na­tion­al appear­ance when she rep­re­sents GB at the Euro­pean Short Course Cham­pi­onships this week.

Coates Claims Silver to Close Out European Juniors in Style

Geor­gia Coates wins sil­ver in the 200m indi­vid­ual med­ley to take our final medal tal­ly in Dor­drecht to four. 

A life­time best per­for­mance of 2:14.72 gave Geor­gia Coates a sil­ver medal in the 200m indi­vid­ual med­ley. This con­cludes a superb week for the 15 year old who now has a sil­ver and a bronze medal in her col­lec­tion. As does Amelia Clynes, who was back in action tonight in the 50m but­ter­fly. She swam yet anoth­er life­time best to fin­ish 10th in a time of 27.90.

The club would like to thank every­one who made these results possible.

Clynes and Coates Continue to Excel in Dordrecht

As the Euro­pean Junior Cham­pi­onships draw to a close, our rep­re­sen­ta­tives show no signs of let­ting up.

Yes­ter­day saw Amelia Clynes set a new British Age Group record in the 100m but­ter­fly to qual­i­fy joint fastest for tonight’s final. In the final, Amelia dipped under the one minute bar­ri­er for the first time to touch home in 59.96. A per­for­mance that low­ered her British mark once again and earnt her a sil­ver medal in a close-fought race.

Hav­ing won a bronze medal in the 400m indi­vid­ual med­ley ear­li­er in the week, Geor­gia Coates was back in action today, this time com­pet­ing in the 200m event. She qual­i­fied sec­ond quick­est for tomor­row’s final.

Leeds Ladies Enjoy First Day European Success (updated)

Last night on the first day of the Euro­pean Junior Cham­pi­onships in Dor­drecht, three City of Leeds swim­mers were in action for Team GB.

Geor­gia Coates swam a five sec­ond life time best to win a bronze medal in the 400m indi­vid­ual med­ley. She also placed 6th in the 800m freestyle.

Mag­dale­na Cygan nar­row­ly missed out on a medal as she fin­ished 4th in the 4 x 100m freestyle.

Amelia Clynes qual­i­fied in 2nd fastest for the final of the 200m butterfly.
Update, 11 July: In the final, Amelia won a bronze medal in a British Age Group record time of 2:11.46.
